It’s understandable to worry about this, especially if you’re having a thought that feels frightening, intrusive, or shameful. Having a scary thought does not automatically mean your children are at risk or that anyone is going to take them away.
I have a duty to risk assess, but there’s also an important distinction between having an unwanted or intrusive thought and intending to act on it.
Therapy is confidential, with some important legal and ethical limits. I would aim to be transparent with you about any concerns.
You don’t have to hide the thought to keep your family safe. In fact, being able to talk openly about frightening thoughts is often an important part of figuring out what they mean and what support you need.
